In their article, “Childhood Obesity: The Health Issue,”
Richard Deckelbaum and Christine Williams assert the importance of the growing
epidemic of obesity amongst children. By including information about the
increasing numbers of children that are qualified as being “overweight” as well
as mentioning trends and statistics, the authors back up their claim. In order
to raise awareness of this problem, the authors emphasize the seriousness of
the issue throughout their article. With their affirmative tone, they are
addressing an audience that is interested in hearing about the problem, as well
as a group that is looking for change in this particular area.
